Hello, Friends,

It has been a long time since I wrote Messages From Gaia. Now I am feeling guided to offer a new series of writings called ‘Becoming a Nature Whisperer’. This time it will be on Substack. I am just learning about this format so please forgive my fumblings with this new technology. If you want to check out what I’m writing, you can see the first post below. Please subscribe if you are interested. I will be offering the free option.

Becoming a Nature Whisperer

Just tune into nature until you feel the love flow.

~Message received by Dorothy Maclean, Findhorn, Scotland

My purpose in writing this blog is to hopefully create a community of people who want to learn more and deepen their relationship to the beauty and sentience of nature. In the past, this relationship was commonplace. But in our modern culture, many people do not feel deeply connected to the natural world. Now we are remembering and rediscovering the benefits and blessings of being a part of nature in a more intimate way.

I don’t have an ‘official’ definition of a nature whisperer but I trust that we can all intuitively sense what this means to us. It includes loving the physical form of some part of nature but also the spirit of the animal, plant or other life form.

In 2008, I went to Findhorn, a spiritual community in northern Scotland where a group of people were pioneering the creation of gardens that was a partnership with the unseen beings of nature. I participated in a workshop led by Dorothy Maclean, one of the Findhorn founders, who had developed an ability to connect and communicate with the spirits (nature spirits and devas) of plants. These beings helped the 3 founders of the community to grow amazing vegetables in the poor sandy soil. This attracted a lot of interest and people began coming from all around the world to learn and experience what was happening there.

Since my time at Findhorn, I have deepened my relationship to the beauty and spirit of nature. I feel especially close to trees, plants and the soil. Other people may feel closer to animals or other parts of nature.

My intention is to publish 1 or 2 blogs per month, sharing my experiences and what I have learned from others about this connection with the natural world. I hope this will encourage and inspire others to explore this heart connection with nature. Let’s become nature whisperers!

My carrot story

Soon after I came back from Findhorn, I planted a small garden in my backyard. I sowed carrot seeds in one patch. After they sprouted, I realized I had planted more seeds than were needed so they had to be thinned. I got really sad when I pulled up some of the carrot plants so the others could grow larger. I started to cry because I knew I was killing some of the baby plants.. Then I heard these little carrot voices saying, ‘Don’t cry, Mary. We’re okay. Pull me. Pull me.’ It was so sweet to realize that the little carrots were willing to be pulled for the good of the whole patch. I sensed that they understand the circle of life and are glad to be a part of that. I was so grateful to them for their comfort and kindness.
