When we make direct contact with the surface of the Earth our bodies receive a charge of energy that makes us feel better.

“Earthing” by Clinton Ober, Sinatra and Zucker

I grew up on a farm and every year I went barefoot from early spring till late into the fall. My feet got so tough that I could walk easily on most any surface, including gravel.  Thistles were about the only thing that penetrated the bottoms of my feet.  My brothers and sisters did the same thing, it was just a part of our daily lives.  Like our ancestors for millennia, it seemed so natural to walk with naked feet upon the earth.

This spring I decided that one of my goals for the growing season is to spend more time barefoot in my yard. It has been delightful!  I realized what a ‘tenderfoot’ I have become.  At first, just about everything I walked on hurt my feet but after a few weeks, they are doing better.  And it feels so good!

More and more information is coming out about why spending time in nature is beneficial. It calms us, helps us feel less stressed and is good for us in so many ways.  Research is also showing that touching the earth has health benefits-neutralizing the free radicals in our bodies and helping us in other ways.  It seems so simple, yet many people rarely touch the earth directly.  We wear shoes of manmade materials that block out the flow of earth energy to our bodies.  Most of us spend most or much of our time inside buildings.  We have to be intentional if we want to touch the earth.  Yet it’s worthwhile in so many ways.

I do Healing Touch treatments for many people and when I assess the energy flow in their bodies, I often find blockages in their feet and legs. I frequently suggest that they take some time to walk or sit with their bare feet on the earth.  If the weather is cold, I suggest that they put their bare hands on a tree since trees have an energy field that is obviously connected to the earth.

My friends who do reflexology tell me that most of our energy meridians flow to our hands and feet. That makes intuitive sense to me since humans evolved while living in intimate connection to the earth.  Our bodies are designed to access earth energy.  What a beautiful thought.

Regardless of any health benefits, it just feels so wonderful to be in direct contact with the earth, trees, plants and soil. If it’s been a while since you have walked barefoot on the earth, give it a try.

Happy earthing! Mary

From Gaia July 2, 2016

My beloved co-creators,

Imagine my joy when I feel people’s bare feet on the ground, hands in the soil, your loving touch upon my earth body! This intimate sharing is blissful and renewing.  Now is the time for people to rediscover the blessing of our shared connection.

All is in divine order. Humans needed to learn and grow with limited conscious awareness of how dependent they are on the earth.  The earth supplied all of your needs while people took this for granted, often not appreciating the importance of clean air, pure water, unadulterated food and fertile soil.

It was a divergence of sorts, a childlike stage when people wanted to be independent, not realizing that their basic needs were being provided all the time. Gaia has a mother’s love and I was always near, loving and attentive to your needs.

Now it is time to recognize that no person can survive or thrive without earth support. It’s time for people to move into an adult relationship with the earth, where there is mutual respect, caring and love.

The transition to this new stage is chaotic and may appear to be quite a mess. Yet often it takes difficulties for people to awaken and try new things.  Much progress is being made so focus on the positive and more will emerge.

Always you can turn to the earth and your partners in the Unseen Realm for support, love and peaceful reassurance. Ask for help!  Open your eyes, hands and heart and all you need will flow to you in divine and perfect timing.  Know that you are loved beyond measure each moment.

I love you, dear ones. I am Gaia, your Earth Mother, your friend.
